Only those entries with specific comments to that effect are companies with whom
I have done business; I am fortunate in that there is a local (to me)
shop where I can buy most of my CYF films, but I have done business
with a few of the sites listed below. I will update this section as
further information is available. The links given are in no particular order.
I will not knowingly list any source of pirated material. Ever.

Twinkle Movie Stills, Posters and Lobby Cards
Located in Hong Kong. Great selection of posters and carries full sets of lobby cards and
also idol photo sets; books, advert posters and lots of other good
stuff also in stock. Has a Twinkle Club which you can join for a fee
and receive a discount off your orders, so if you plan on decorating
your entire home in Hong Kong Cinema Modern style, you might want to check
that out. Also runs a free email service and a discussion forum. Very
pleasant to deal with, good with email and has excellent prices. I have
ordered many times from Twinkle and have always been pleasantly surprised
with the excellent packaging, speed of shipment and small extras included
with my order. Carries posters found nowhere else (such as commercial posters found
in subways and telephone kiosks). Accepts credit cards via a third-party secure
server. I highly recommend Twinkle. Reprints are always CLEARLY marked,
unlike many other sellers.
HiViZone
Located in Hong Kong. DVD. High marks for price and titles available. You can
buy DVDs here for as little as US$8.00. I have ordered from them many times and
had no problems at all. You can expect your discs about 1 week after purchase
if you opt for SpeedPost (the equivalent of EMS in HK). SpeedPost will run around
US$20 from HK to the USA. If you intend to buy more than just a couple of discs,
you will probably save money even factoring in the international postage. This is
my first recommended dealer to all new CYF fans. If you haven't ordered from an
overseas vendor before, don't be put off by the fact they are in HK. Their site
is easy to navigate and they offer secure credit card payment. My advice is
to check HiViZone first for price and availability. They now carry some Korean and
Japanese releases as well.
AsianDB (formerly Koreapop, formerly Iodo.com)
Located in Korea. Has some CYF titles but they are all extremely overpriced;
I could not find a DVD priced less than US$36.00. Carries some films from
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China and Southeast Asia. A film database of
Asian, Southeast Asian, Iranian and Indian movies gives a snapshot of various
films which may come in handy, but at these prices, try to find the films
elsewhere. The search engine is clunky - I was unable to find the CYF titles
using any of the search options, just a brief bio which had been lifted from the
Internet Movie Database.
YesAsia (formerly AsiaCD)
Located in the USA. A great place to buy CDs. Has a number of
CYF titles but the DVDs are a little high, though not outrageously
priced. Sometimes their VCD descriptions are not completely accurate
when it comes to subtitle information. Also carries paper items
such as posters and calendars, as well as some Hong Kong and Japanese
magazines. The site is primarily Chinese but
even if you can't make out one character of Chinese you can still
navigate around if you concentrate. =) Shipping is reasonable in price
and speed. Also has
online pop charts, CD reviews, the Mei Ah store and other areas of
interest. You can also find gift goods, karaoke discs and other
celebrity-releated items.
TaiSeng Video Marketing
Located in the USA. DVD, VHS and posters. You can find a number of CYF titles here, but
you will pay full MSRP, which is US$49.99 per DVD or US$39.99 for
VHS (NTSC format). As such, you're better off looking just about
anywhere else for films (even amazon.com). Their movie listings tend to a few
inaccuracies as well - they don't seem to know the difference between Alan Tam and
Alan Tang, for example. A last resort.
Asian Xpress
Located in the USA. DVD. The link above will take you to their
listing of CYF films. A decent selection, but their prices are very high compared to
other sources - even those in the USA (don't you dare pay thirty bucks for The Seventh
Curse!). ;) I have never done any business
with this company personally. Comments from past customers welcome.
Videocds.com
Located in the USA. VCD, DVD. Carries a number of CYF VCDs for US$9.99 each; shipping
is US$6.99. Now accepts credit cards through CCNow's secure server.
welcome.
amazon.com video
Located in the USA. DVD and VHS. This is probably the last place (other
than TaiSeng) you'll want to look when shopping for
price (other than Tai Seng), but they do have some of the more popular
and easy-to-obtain titles in stock - without the wait or the shipping
charges from Hong Kong. Their customer service is the best I have
ever encountered. I've ordered plenty of DVDs (and other items) from them
and never had a problem they weren't eager to solve. Low marks on price and
titles available, but high marks for customer service. Click on the Video tab,
then use their Search function to either look for a complete listing for CYF
titles, or search for one particular title. The take pre-orders for unreleased
discs and tapes; they do not necessarily ship on street date.
