A very soapy soap indeed. Chow Yun-Fat plays Ngai Chun, an adopted son who has a very nasty sibling, Ngai Gong Sang. Sang is a slobby, rude and vicious man who does everything bad he can think of including kick the family dog. Chun is intelligent and of a much better temper and so of course is bitterly hated by Gong Sang.

Ticked off by the attention and respect given to Chun, Gong Sang sets up Chun for a fall and has him falsely accused of a crime. Much nastiness ensues but Chun wins out. However not long later Gong Sang is murdered and Chun is tossed back in the pokey since he is the prime suspect.

Coming to his defense is the crack lawyer Sung Suen Yee (Seung Yi) who, incidentally, is Chun's adopted mother, and her assistant Dung Shun Wah (Carol Cheng) who, incidentally, is Chun's sweetie. Closely knit little group.

Shun Wah, who apparently is a little unclear on the concept behind being a lawyer, sees that the chances of getting Chun cleared of the murder charge with the evidence on hand are a little iffy, so she decides to manufacture some. Fortunately a witness is found who can clear Chun but unfortunately Shun Wah's unique methods of insuring an acquittal are found out and she's fitted out for a blue prison frock forthwith. Not to worry though, Chun's a good guy and he doesn't mind; when they are reunited on an airplane he plants one on her that almost catches the upholstery on fire.

This series is as about as trite as they come, with characters which are scribbled more than drawn. CYF appears surly and unhappy throughout most of the series; Carol Cheng smirks more than smiles and has a strange aura of unpleasantness surrounding her. CYF and DoDo were an item at one point but if they were during this series, it must not have been a very happy pairing; there is none of the charm here which made their performances in Now You See Love, Now You Don't and even My Will, I Will enjoyable in later years.

Compared to other TVB series in which CYF was cast, this is probably the most disposable of them all. The video quality of the tapes is poor, garish colors and video repeatedly out of synch. All in all, a rather low-grade effort and not one of TVB's brighter moments.
