Miss O review and gallery added
Okay, so I lied - I'm still writing the Dream Lovers review, but in the
meantime take a look at Miss O. The screen captures are bad, but I feel
lucky to even have a copy of this film. I hope the Hong Kong Film Archive has
masters of some of these old films, I would hate for them to be lost to antiquity
simply because they aren't "art".

Code of Honour review and gallery added
Yes, I'm still alive and have finally done an update. Presented for your perusal is Code of Honour. CYF appears for perhaps eight minutes all told in this one, so unless you're a completist I wouldn't bother buying it. If you do want a copy, I believe Amae in Canada still carries it. I've had a request to review Hard Boiled so I'll be working on that, plus Goodbye, My Friend and of course... The Reincarnation. (How many times have I promised that now? Oh well, maybe for the Lunar New Year!)

Their Private Lives review and gallery added
I'm still working on the images from The Reincarnation but it's slow-go. In the meantime, take a look at the ones from Their Private Lives. A review of the film has also been added. A strange role for CYF, a very dated but still interesting film, and about ten minutes of afterthought porn thrown in. Makes for interesting viewing. One of these days I'll finish up Code of Honour, which is probably going to be next.

The Last Affair review and gallery added
CYF was near the peak of his beauty in this film; it's a good thing, too since that's about the only thing this title has going for it. Some beautiful shots of him in the bath. The images in the gallery were taken from laserdisc, which shows you how poor this transfer was. Hopefully one day this will be remastered and released on DVD, because even if it is a rather awful movie, it'sworth watching just to see the golden aura surrounding CYF as he wanders around Paris just being perfect.

Love In A Fallen City review and gallery added
The gallery shown is only temporary. The copies of this film in circulation seem to vary from poor to almost-unwatchable. I've managed to locate a vendor in Japan who has a used commercial VHS copy for sale, and while I anxiously await its arrival I've put up a few images (only 9) in the gallery from the poor VHS copy I have at the moment. I know this film was released, subtitled in Japanese, on laserdisc but have so far been unable to find a copy for sale. I'm still working on the gallery for The Reincarnation and because the video quality of CYF's debut film is so bad, it will take some time to clean up the images to an acceptable level of awfulness. :( I've been considering buying a time-base corrector to see if perhaps this copy can't be straightened out a bit, but I'm not sure if it will help. If anyone has any expertise in this area, could you drop mesome mail?

100 Ways To Murder Your Wife review added
As mentioned earlier, the review (such as it is - this movie is really rather hard to categorize) is now in place. Really, this is one you have to just see for yourself. Next up: The Reincarnation review and gallery. No, I'm not kidding.

100 Ways To Murder Your Wife gallery added
The 100 Ways To Murder Your Wife gallery has been added, the film info and review will be online shortly. Gordon, you can look at the pictures now! =) I've been so busy watching the fabulous films sent to me by Wal P. that I haven't worked on the site in two days - a huge thank-you to Wal for giving me the chance to see some really incredible stuff.

links and resources updated, more HKH stuff
I've added a Fun Link to the links page (the Ng Man-Tat for PresidentHome Page) which is an absolute must-see. I spent a good hour laughing during my visit to this site. I've also added three vendors to the resources section (Twinkle, HKMovie, AsiaCD), two of which are sellers of HK movie posters and other fun items. Speaking of fun items, I've recently acquired all 110 episodes of The Giants TVB serial from 1978 starring not only Chow Yun-Fat but Paul Chu Kong! Of course that's going on Hong Kong Heartbreaker which is coming along but I still need to do the HTML cosmetics. I'm still searching for the series Hotel, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, Aligator Pool, Visitor To An Isolated Castle and a couple of others I haven't translated the titles into English yet. Do you have copies of any of those? If so, email me and let's work out a trade.

update notes
While I haven't done much to the actual site lately, I have been doing quite a bit offline; I've done a fair amount of work onthe television serials for Hong Kong Heartbreaker and have worked on acquiring some older films (such as See-Bar and a commercial copy of Love In A Fallen City, and some other goodies I hope will work out). I'm going to add in titles, but not links, for everything I own or have lined up so far and work on getting the info online; as this happens, you will see the links appear in the index pages for the review collection and the image galleries. I'll add updates here, of course. At any rate, I've been working on the site, but you just can't tell it yet. =)

Club Girl Story image gallery and review added.
This is a really fun movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit. And no, not justbecause of the shower scene. Honestly.

Good stuff coming up!
A huge thank-you to Cyndy for supplying me with a copy of theultra-rare film Love In A Fallen City. While this is a multi-generation VHS copy, it's the only one I have ever seen and I am thrilled to have it. Thank you, Cyndy! Also a big thanks to Pat for hunting down copies of The Missed Date and The Last Affair for me, and most of all a copy of Club Girl Story! That's another old one I thought I would never get to see. Ladies, you are wonderful. Thank you so much! Screen caps from all these will be appearing here just as soon as I can get them made and ready to add, as well as reviews. (Just as a matter of trivia, my CYF film library now contains56 titles, not including television serial episodes.)

Love Unto Wastes review and image gallery added.
40 images and a review of Love Unto Wastes added. Next up will probably be Code of Honour, later this week. I will also be working on Hong Kong Heartbreaker, I'd like to have that ready to open sometime in November.
October 02, 1999
The Lunatics review and image gallery added.
38 images from The Lunatics and a review of the film added. I have not included some images from key scenes of the film because they wouldbe spoilers to those who haven't seen it (in case you're wondering why some Paul Chun Pui scenes aren't represented, especially). Next up: Love Unto Wastes.

The Story of Rose image gallery updated.
The image gallery for Story of Rose has been updated as promised; there are now 104 images available from this better VHScopy. The images vary in quality depending on how well-behaved thevideotape was during various scenes, as it has a tendency to be a bit on the dark side at times; nonetheless the images are much better than the old tape. If you're interested in obtaining a copy ofthis movie, it's $39.95 from World Video (listed in the Resourcessection), but my suggestion is to wait for the re-release next year with the remastered video unless 1) you don't have a copy with the orignal actors' voices and/or 2) you have to have it now. (I admit I'm guilty of #2.)

Coming soon to a computer monitor near you...
... will be a new companion site, Hong Kong Heartbreaker. This annex of Free Man In Hong Kong will focus on CYF's early career, primarily in television (he made 20 different series for TVB) and his extremely early films before he was top billed. I'm still working on this site, but will devote some time to Heartbreaker as well. There isn't much out there about such series as "VisitorTo An Isolated Castle", and I thought it would be an interesting addition to the CYF info on the Web. Since most of the info I have is in Chinese and Japanese, it will take me some time to translate, but it'll happen eventually! I've been toldthere are copies of his early films in existence but I haven't seen them yet, but Ido have a few black and white pictures. At any rate, I hope it will be of interest to someone other than me! =)

Review and image gallery for Heroic Cops added.
42 images from Heroic Cops and a review of the film added. A strange movie, rather entertaining. I've also seen it marketed as The Executioner. In any case, CYF certainly doesn't play one of the cops. CYF looks veryAlain Delon in his first scenes in the film, too.

Image gallery for An Autumn's Tale updated.
New! Improved! Well, maybe not new but definitely improved. The Megastar HK DVD release of this film is vastly superior to the older versions, and even though it's not crystal clear it certainly makes for better screen caps. 66 images now in the gallery. I'm still working on the new Story of Rosecaptures, and am tinkering with those from Tragic Hero and Heroic Cops, too.

Review and image gallery for Pembunuhan Pursuit added.
Yes, this film really does exist and it really does have CYF in it. Notthat he probably admits it these days. Actually it is entertaining, even if not in the way originally envisioned. CYF plays one of the few maniacal killers of his career. Too bad he wears those shades almostthe entire movie, as it hides that incredible face. (Come to think of it, maybe that was the intent!)

More and better images for An Autumn's Tale and Story of Rose coming up.
The new Megastar DVD of An Autumn's Tale arrived a few days ago, and I've made some much better screen captures from that disc. I'm stillin the process of cleaning and cropping them, but check back in a day or so for the nicer pictures. I also am working on image galleries for HeroicCops, The Lunatics and better caps (and lots of them) from a better copy of The Story of Rose. The Rose caps are also from VHS, but as soon as the re-release DVD comes out, I will replace these, too. Such a beautiful film is worth the duplicated effort. Lyrics to The Last Rose (the themesong to The Story of Rose) have been added as a link off the review page forthat title.

Treasure Hunt gallery and review added.
97 images from the film Treasure Hunt now appearingin the gallery. Can you tell it's one of myfavorite CYF films? Actually, it's one of my favorite filmsof all time, and I recommend it as one of my Top Five CYF Films.

Added gallery and opening theme .mp3 for "The Bund".
Added a gallery entry for the television series "The Bund" with30 images, all from the famous last episode. Images from otherepisodes will be added later.
